Weather: Rain chance remains in weekend forecast

Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms remain in the local forecast throughout the weekend and into next week, says the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Today and Saturday appear to be the drier days of the weekend with only a 40 percent rain chance listed. But on Sunday and into Monday, an approaching cold front will bring a greater chance of rain as the percentages rise to 70 percent on Sunday and 80 percent on Monday.

High temperatures will be 90 degrees today, 89 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday. Overnight lows will be near 70.

FRIDAY – A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

FRIDAY NIGHT – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

SATURDAY – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

SATURDAY NIGHT – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

SUNDAY – A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

SUNDAY NIGHT – Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

MONDAY – A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 9am. High near 82. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
