Wednesday: Coweta adds 40 new cases, 1 death

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, Nov. 18.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 40 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday including 1 death and 0 hospitalizations. The death was of an 81-year-old white male with no underlying conditions and is the 2nd death this month.

Coupled with yesterday’s 67 cases, Coweta has 107 cases in a 2-day period. The last time the county hit a higher two-day total was 112 on Aug. 26-27 (66-46). Other surrounding counties also had increases on Wednesday – Carroll added 23 cases, Troup 16, Fayette 12, Spalding 9, Heard 2 and Meriwether 1.

The age group of 15-24 year olds in Coweta had the most new cases today with 10, followed by 25-34 year olds with 9 new cases. Coweta now has 289 cases during the month of November for a daily rate of 16.1. Last month, October’s daily rate was 12.4 cases.

To date, Coweta has registered cumulative totals of 3302 cases, 65 deaths and 159 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 7.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 7.0 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).

GEORGIA CASES

On Wednesday, Georgia confirmed 2514 cases (down 1022 from Wednesday), 40 deaths (up 15), 228 hospitalizations (up 54) and 47 ICU admits (up 17).

With Georgia’s 3536 cases yesterday, it’s the first time since Aug. 21-22 that the state had back-to-back days above 2500 cases.

Presently, there are 1,755 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, up 24 from Wednesday which makes up 11.3 percent of statewide hospital beds. More concerning is ICU bed occupancy. Today, 2794 ICU beds (95.4 percent capacity) are occupied in Georgia, up 372 from Tuesday.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 393,980 cases, 8536 deaths, 33,667 hospitalizations and 6306 ICU admits. The overall positive test rate is 9.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 8.1 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
