THE SKINNY – Coweta County added 2 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, the 10th straight day with at least 1 hospitalization.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, March 3. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 31 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday with 3 deaths and 2 hospitalizations. It’s the 10th straight day at least 1 hospitalization has been recorded, the county’s longest streak since the pandemic began. In that span, 16 hospitalizations have occurred. Wednesday’s 3 COVID-related deaths were the most in a week.

Coweta also extended its streak of double-digit cases on Wednesday to 110 days, dating from Nov. 14.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 245 COVID cases (35.0 per day), 9 deaths and 13 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 69 cases (23.0 per day) with 4 deaths (1.3 per day)  and 4 hospitalizations (1.0 per day). Though early in the month, here are February’s numbers for comparison – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.46 per day) and 39 hospitalizations (1.39 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 8.1 percent (lowest since Nov. 23).

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8094 cases, 154 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 285 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 35-44 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Wednesday with 8, followed by the 75-84 group with 7.

GEORGIA CASES

On Wednesday, Georgia confirmed 1526 new cases of COVID-19, the 4th day in-a-row below 2000. Other numbers included 140 deaths, 118 hospitalizations and 28 ICU admits. It was the 35th time Georgia has recorded 100-or-more deaths in a day since the pandemic began and the most since 172 on Feb. 19.

Two of four census number categories dropped slightly from Tuesday. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1840 (down 34 from Tuesday) which is 11.5 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since late November. Adult Ventilators are at 1147 (down 9) or 31.1 percent capacity.

ICU bed occupancy rose on Wednesday to 2469 (up 26) or 80.5 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state also rose to 12,451 (up 109) or at 81.9 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 7.3 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 823,008 cases, 15,349 deaths, 56,369 hospitalizations and 9186 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
