THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded only 3 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the fewest in a single day since Oct. 12.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, March 17. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

On Wednesday, Coweta County confirmed 3 new COVID-19 cases with 0 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. The 3 cases were the fewest since the county reported 3 on Oct. 12 and it’s the 13th time this month below 20 cases.

Coweta’s 0 deaths and 0 hospitalizations on Wednesday were the 2nd consecutive day to record no deaths and hospitalizations. The last time the county had back-to-back days with no deaths and hospitalizations was Feb. 14-15.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 70 COVID cases (10.0 per day), 5 deaths and 5 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 276 cases (16.2 per day) with 15 deaths (0.8 per day) and 21 hospitalizations (1.2 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.5 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 5.0 percent (lowest since recording 4.9 percent on Oct. 9).

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8301 cases, 165 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 302 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 20th in deaths due to COVID.

The age group of 45-54 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Wednesday with 2.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 1127 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the 18th consecutive day below 2000. The last time that occurred was Oct. 5-22. Also on Wednesday, the state had 69 deaths, 122 hospitalizations and 39 ICU admits.

Three of four patient census categories increased on Wednesday. ICU bed occupancy rose to 2403 (up 31 from Tuesday) or 79.4 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state increased to 12,137 (up 392) or at 79.6 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use also rose, now standing at 1094 (up 21) or 29.6 percent capacity.

COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia continued to fall, now at 1284 (down 30) which is 8.3 percent of all statewide hospital patients.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.3 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 838,570 cases, 15,997 deaths, 57,635 hospitalizations and 9424 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
