The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Dec. 17. A technical issue continues to delay information regarding the data on patient census (hospital and ICU bed occupancy and ventilator usage). As soon as that issue is fixed, it will return to the Georgia portion of the below story.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 60 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, which is tied for the 5th-highest single day total since the pandemic began. It’s the 9th straight day above 30 cases and 34th consecutive day in double-digits. Other Thursday numbers included 3 hospitalizations and 1 death removed from the cumulative totals.

In the past 48 hours, the age groups of 15-24, 35-44 and 45-54 year olds each had 19 new cases of COVID with the group 55-64 posting 18.

For the month of December, the county has posted 709 cases for an average of 41.7 per day with 4 deaths and 19 hospitalizations. The 709 cases is 2nd-highest monthly total, trailing only August with 953 cases. The 41.7 daily rate is ahead of the high mark for a month which was 30.7, also in August.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 4362 cases, 72 deaths (with an additional 5 probable deaths) and 196 hospitalizations. Coweta is 25th among all Georgia counties in cumulative cases.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 8.5 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 12.9 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Thursday, Georgia confirmed 5835 new cases of COVID-19 which is the 2nd-highest total in a single day. It trails only 6062 recorded on Dec. 10. It’s the 19th time the state has been above 4000 cases in a day. Other Thursday numbers included 56 deaths, 300 hospitalizations and 31 ICU admits.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 494,173 cases, 9358 deaths, 38,718 hospitalizations and 6967 ICU admits.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 9.6 percent, and in the last two weeks, it stands at 13.1 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (6062 on Dec. 10); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
