No question, it’s the holiday season as this weekend’s calendar is full of many family events in-and-around Coweta County.

On Friday, the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation is co-hosting a Book Fair at Barnes and Noble through Sunday. Ballet Magnificat presents Light Has Come benefitting the Coweta Pregnancy Services at Wadsworth Auditorium , the Newnan Christmas Tour of Homes takes place in the historic Greenville and LaGrange Street neighborhoods, the Southern Crescent Chorale presents the first of a two-night program at the Peachtree City First Presbyterian Church, and Sweetland On Ice opens in LaGrange with its 5,500 sq.ft. ice-skating rink.

On Saturday, its Main Street Newnan’s final Market Day of 2019, Moreland celebrates its Hometown Christmas, Peachtree City holds its annual Hometown Holiday at Drake Field, and Light Up Senoia features a downtown parade. Other events include the Santa Paws Merry Market, Keep Newnan Beautiful Paper Shredding, Serenbe Holiday Bazaar, and Author Talk at Central Library in Thomas Crossroads.

And finally on Sunday, Masterworks Chorale presents Christmas at the Nixon Centre, plus events like the Senoia Candlelight Tour of Homes, Cookies & Milk with Santa, and Ornament Making at Leaf and Bean in Newnan are scheduled.

The local music scene is busy as Kris Youmans of the Kris Youmans Band has you covered with local acts performing in various venues in Coweta, Fayette and Troup Counties.

On the theatrical stage, the Legacy Theatre, Serenbe Playhouse and Southside Theatre Guild have tickets remaining for several weekend performances.

Weather-wise, look for a chance of rain and mostly cloudy conditions through the weekend. The best chance of rain is Friday at 50 percent, Saturday 20 percent and Sunday 30 percent. Highs will be in the 50s with lows in the 40s.

NCLF Book Fair at Barnes & Noble
The Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation is hosting a book fair at Barnes and Noble thru Dec. 8. Barnes and Noble will donate a portion of your purchase to the NCLF as long as you provide the barcode on the flyer or enter the number during online checkout. Exercise is Medicine

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Newnan Christmas Tour of Homes
This walking tour gives participants a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these beautiful homes dating from the late 1800s to the early 1900s decorated with fresh wreaths, garlands and floral arrangements. Guests may tour the homes at their own pace from 4 to 9 p.m. For those who aren’t comfortable walking, a complimentary shuttle bus is available with stops along the tour. Tickets can be purchased at Something Special at Lillian Gardens, located at 83 Greenville Street, in Historic Downtown Newnan. Rain or shine event. Newnan Presbyterian Church Garden will have refreshments to enjoy. Both are stops for the complimentary shuttle. A portion of the proceeds will help the The Angel’s House a non-profit that provides a safe, nurturing home for teen girls in crisis. The girls who come through The Angel’s House’s doors receive the shelter, structure, and care they need to maximize their potential for success.

Holiday Carriage Rides in Downtown LaGrange
Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets of downtown LaGrange. Rides start at the corner of South LaFayette Square and Bull Street, next to the Chamber Plaza. Rides are free to the public. Tipping is encouraged ($5-$10 suggested). Weather permitting, rides will be cancelled in event of rain, sleet, icy pavement or extreme cold temperatures.

The Peachtree City Police Department and the CERT Program are teaming up for the annual Light Up the Night Toy Drive. Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Market Day in Downtown Newnan
Market Day is the very first Saturday of each month from April to December in downtown Newnan. The Market features over 50 vendors made up of local artisans, artists and farmers offering handmade, homemade and homegrown products, with new vendors and new products each month. Market Day favorites include: fresh locally grown produce, honey, jams & jellies, salsa, pottery, art, freshly baked goods, handmade furniture, birdhouses, wood art, and much more! Pickin’ on the Square also occurs simultaneously each month during the Market Day. It’s the vernacular sounds of local musicians playing acoustic music around the Courthouse Lawn and side streets. Any musician with an acoustic instrument is invited to join.

Docent Training at McRitchie-Hollis Museum
The McRitchie-Hollis Museum is starting its docent program and is looking for history lovers and good storytellers. Docent Training classes, hosted by the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, will be held twice a month until the end of the year on the first Tuesday and Saturday of the month. Get a head start by reading some documents on the Trello App under the public board: NCHS Docent Program. At the training day, Docents will meet staff and be taught the basic tour and learn procedures such as money taking and group tour flow. There is no cost to be a Docent and participants can take the training multiple times. Docents are asked to volunteer two times a month during our normal tour times, Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10am-3pm. If you can not staff a full day, we still welcome your participation.
