Weekly Report: Coweta County cases continue to rise in past week

THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 221 new COVID-19 cases last week, up from the previous week.

Below is the weekly summary of COVID-19 data thru Wednesday, June 15 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY

Coweta County confirmed 221 new COVID-19 cases in the past week (June 9-15) for an average of 31.6 per day. It’s an increase of 21 cases from the previous week (200, June 2-8) and the most in a week since 398 from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 earlier this year.

The daily high number of cases came on Friday, June 10 with 45. In fact, Coweta posted four days in the past week of at least 30 cases (33 on June 9; 45 on June 10; 39 on June 12; and 39 on June 15).  

In addition, Coweta did confirm one death (the first death in 3 weeks) and had 17 hospitalizations (up 2) last week. 

For the month of June, Coweta has registered 541 cases (36.1 per day),  1 death,  32 hospitalizations.  The 541 cases are the most in a month since 629 in February 2022.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, Coweta County has reported 182,126 vaccines applied thru June 15 with 487 last week.  The Coweta vaccination rate is 55 percent for people with one dose (Georgia is at 64 percent) and 50 percent fully vaccinated (Georgia is at 57 percent) as of June 15. Also, 43 percent of Coweta residents have been fully vaccinated and had a booster shot (Georgia 42 percent). 

The overall positive test rate in Coweta was 12.9 percent on June 15, with the two-week infection rate rising to 18.2 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 12.8 and 16.3 respectively.

Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 22,091 cases, 430 deaths (with an additional 62 probable deaths) and 1,555 hospitalizations thru June 15 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 20th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 19th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA

Statewide, Georgia posted decreases in cases and ICU admits and had increases in deaths and hospitalizations for the week of June 9-15.

Georgia confirmed 13,566 cases for an average of 1,938 per day for last week – a decrease of 1,075 cases from the previous week of June 2-8.

Other totals from June 9-15 included 67 deaths (up 18 from the previous week), 577 hospitalizations (up 18) and 31 ICU admits (down 2).

The number of COVID patients hospitalized last week was 724 or 4.5 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. It was an increase of 64 from the previous week and the 8th consecutive week this number has risen.

The overall positive test rate in Georgia was 12.2 percent on June 15, with the two-week infection rate standing at 16.7 percent.

Overall, Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 2,021,181 cases, 31,952 deaths, 115,079 hospitalizations and 16,168 ICU admits thru June 15 from when the pandemic began.
