Coweta County posted 20 COVID-19 cases last week, the second-lowest weekly total of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, June 14.  Below is a summary for the week of June 7-13 with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 20 new COVID-19 cases for the past week with 1 death and a 7 hospitalizations.

The 20 confirmed cases (up 5 from a week ago) are the 2nd-fewest recorded in a week by Coweta since the pandemic began, only behind last week’s record-low of 15. Coweta’s average was 2.9 cases per day. The high mark during the week was 5 cases on Tuesday, June 8. The county extended its streak to 96 consecutive days below 20 cases.

The 1 death posted was down 2 from a week ago. It’s the 5th time in the past 7 weeks the county has recorded 1-or-less deaths in a weekly period. The 7 hospitalizations (up 3 from last week) gave Coweta a 1.0 per day average.

So far in June, Coweta has registered 35 COVID cases (2.7 per day), 4 deaths (0.3 per day) and 11 hospitalizations (0.8 per day). By comparison, Coweta’s May daily averages were 5.8 cases per day, 0.1 deaths and 1.1 hospitalizations.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.2 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 2.0 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 10.2 and 2.3, respectively.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8861 cases, 213 deaths (with an additional 13 probable deaths) and 394 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 23rd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 18th in deaths due to COVID.

The age groups of 45-54 and 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases in the past week with 4 each.

GEORGIA CASES

In the past week, Georgia confirmed 1770 new COVID-19 cases (up 1 from a week ago) for an average of 253 per day. It included a record low of 157 cases on Sunday, June 13, the lowest daily total since the pandemic began.  Georgia now owns a streak of 106 straight days below 2000 cases, the longest streak since the pandemic began. The high for cases last week was 334 on Thursday, June 10.

Georgia also recorded 111 deaths in the past week (down 10 from a week ago) for an average of 16 per day. Other numbers included 322 hospitalizations (up 33) and 142 ICU Admits (up 39).

Two patient census categories dropped in the past week.  COVID Patients Hospitalized in Georgia dropped by 76, now standing at 490 which is 3.3 percent of all statewide hospital patients.  And Adult Ventilators in use now at 911 (down 29) or 25.5 percent capacity.

Two patient census categories increased in the past week as well. ICU Bed Occupancy rose to 2232 (up 14 from last week) or at 75.2 percent capacity. Also, the number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across Georgia increased to 12,233 (up 576 from last week) or at 80.4 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 1.8 percent. Last week, those numbers were 10.9 and 2.3, respectively.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 899,433 cases, 18,300 deaths, 64,375 hospitalizations and 10,808 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).

ONE YEAR AGO

On June 14, 2020, Georgia had confirmed a cumulative total of 57,681 COVID-19 cases with 2451 deaths.

Coweta had confirmed 511 cumulative COVID-19, 11 deaths and 53 hospitalizations on this date a year ago.

Cumulative case and death totals in Coweta and surrounding counties thru June 14 had Fulton with 5106-285, Troup 759-23, Carroll at 614-37, Coweta 511-11, Spalding 314-24, Fayette 261-14, Meriwether 125-3 and Heard 43-3.
