Weather: Heat continues through the weekend in Coweta

A string of 90-degree high temperatures is expected to continue at least through today and Saturday, says the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

The heat is indeed on here in Coweta County as this week’s temperatures will attest. Daily high temperatures have been 90 degrees-and-up since Sunday while the Heat Index values have reached 100 degrees-and-higher each day since Monday.

Sunday’s high was 90 degrees, followed by 93 on Monday with a heat index value of 100 as reported at the Newnan-Coweta County Airport weather station. Tuesday’s high was 93 (102 heat index), followed by Wednesday’s high of 97 (107 heat index) and Thursday’s high of 94 (103 heat index).

It will be much of the same today with the forecast high of 95 and heat index near 102. There is a 30 percent chance of rain. A Heat Advisory has again been issued for today, beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

A front will move through tonight and bring with it less humid conditions, thus dropping the high temperatures and heat index values. Saturday’s high will be 92 degrees and breezy, as a North wind will be 5-15 mph, gusting to 20.

On Sunday, the high will dip just under 90 degrees down to 89 with North winds again at 5-10 mph, gusting to 15.

Then Monday rolls around and the high will rise to 94 along with more humidity.

FRIDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then becoming sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 102. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.

FRIDAY NIGHT – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

SATURDAY – Sunny, with a high near 92. North wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

SATURDAY NIGHT – Clear, with a low around 65. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

SUNDAY – Sunny, with a high near 89. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

MONDAY – Sunny, with a high near 94.
