Weekly Report: Coweta COVID-19 numbers drop in cases, hospitalizations

THE SKINNY – Coweta County had a decrease in both COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations during last week’s reporting period (Nov. 6-12).
Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Friday, Nov. 12 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Coweta County confirmed 69 new COVID-19 cases, 4 deaths and 8 hospitalizations during the week of Nov. 6-12, decreasing by six in the number of cases and by 7 in the number of people hospitalized from the previous week. Deaths increased by one from last week’s 3 COVID-related deaths.
Coweta did see a decrease in vaccinations last week with 2,985 administered, down 534 from the previous week. The county now has 71,152 people with at least one dose or 50 percent and 64,860 which are fully vaccinated for a rate of 45 percent. Full vaccination rates for neighboring counties include Fayette at 62 percent, Fulton at 55 percent, Meriwether 42 percent, Spalding 41 percent, Carroll 38 percent, Troup 37 percent and Heard at 29 percent.
The positive test rate this week of all persons tested in Coweta was 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 3.9 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 10.9 and 3.7, respectively.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 12,836 cases, 340 deaths (with an additional 36 probable deaths) and 822 hospitalizations thru Nov. 12 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 26th in COVID-related hospitalizations.
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 4,331 COVID-19 cases for an average of 374.0 per day for the reporting period of Nov. 6-12. It was a decrease of 374 cases from last week’s period (Oct. 30-Nov. 5).
Georgia also had 258 deaths (down 50 from last week), 804 hospitalizations (down 92) and 118 ICU admits (down 8).
Regarding vaccinations, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that 11,699,392 vaccinations have been applied in Georgia (231,891 in the past week, up 14,412 from the previous week) through Nov. 12. Of those, 5,914,194 Georgia residents or 57 percent have 1 dose of the vaccine while 5,242,776 or 50 percent have been fully vaccinated.
All four patient census categories dropped in the past week. ICU Beds in Use fell by 77 and now stands at 2,363 or 81.5 percent capacity statewide. The number of COVID Patients Hospitalized dropped by 102 and is now at 951 or 5.8 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia. In-Patient Hospital Beds in Use saw a decrease of 591 and now totals 12,455 or 81.5 percent capacity. And Adult Ventilators in Use fell by 12 and is at 1,151 or 28.6 percent capacity by the end of the week.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 3.3 percent. Last week, those numbers were 11.0 and 3.7, respectively.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 1,272,793 cases, 25,352 deaths, 87,815 hospitalizations and 13,721 ICU admits thru Nov. 12 from when the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8, 2021); deaths (188 on Oct. 15, 2021); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6, 2021); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12, 2020).
