THE SKINNY – Coweta County saw a slight increase in both cases and hospitalizations during last week’s reporting period (Oct. 30-Nov. 5).

Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Friday, Nov. 5 from  the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 75 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths and 15 hospitalizations during the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 5, increasing by four in the number of cases and by 3 in the number of people hospitalized from the previous week. The good news from the weekly numbers were COVID-related deaths dropped by eight after recording 11 a week earlier.

Coweta did see in increase in vaccinations for the second consecutive week with 3,519 administered, up 808 from the previous week. The county now has 70,596 people with at least one dose or 49 percent and 64,285 which are fully vaccinated for a rate of 45 percent. Full vaccination rates for neighboring counties include Fayette at 66 percent, Spalding 41 percent, Meriwether 41 percent, Carroll 38 percent, Troup 37 percent and Heard at 32 percent.

The positive test rate this week of all persons tested in Coweta was 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 3.7 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 11.0 and 5.3, respectively.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 12,767 cases, 336 deaths (with an additional 35 probable deaths) and 814 hospitalizations thru Nov. 5 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 26th in COVID-related hospitalizations.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 4,705 COVID-19 cases for an average of 672.1 per day for the reporting period of Oct. 30-Nov. 5. It was a decrease of 1,742 cases from last week’s period (Oct. 23-29) and the lowest weekly total for the state since mid-July. Thursday’s daily total of 882 were the most in a single day last week for the state.

Georgia also had 308 deaths (down 239 from last week), 896 hospitalizations (down 180) and 126 ICU admits (down 14).

Regarding vaccinations, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports that 11,467,501 vaccinations have been applied in Georgia (217,479 in the past week, up 9,552 from the previous week) through Nov. 5. Of those, 5,850,229 Georgia residents or 56 percent have 1 dose of the vaccine while 5,208,450 or 50 percent have been fully vaccinated.

Three of the four patient census categories dropped in the past week. ICU Beds in Use fell by 38 and now stands at 2,440 or 83.6 percent capacity statewide. The number of COVID Patients Hospitalized dropped by 267 and is now at 1,053 or 6.5 percent of all people hospitalized in Georgia.   And Adult Ventilators in Use fell by 39 and is at 1,163 or 28.8 percent capacity by the end of the week. 

In-Patient Hospital Beds in Use saw an increase of 80 and now totals 13,046 or 84.4 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.0 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 3.7 percent. Last week, those numbers were 11.1 and 4.5, respectively.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 1,268,462 cases, 25,094 deaths, 87,011 hospitalizations and 13,603 ICU admits thru Nov. 5 from when the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8, 2021); deaths (188 on Oct. 15, 2021); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6, 2021); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12, 2020).
