THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported 5 COVID-related hospitalizations on Friday, the most since recording 5 on Dec. 30.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, March 5. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Coweta County confirmed 18 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday with 0 deaths and 5 hospitalizations. It’s the 12th straight day at least 1 hospitalization has been reported, the county’s longest streak since the pandemic began. In that span, 22 hospitalizations have occurred.
Case-wise, Coweta extended its streak of double-digit cases on Friday to 112 days, dating from Nov. 14.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 196 COVID cases (28.0 per day), 10 deaths and 14 hospitalizations.
For March, Coweta has posted 112 cases (22.4 per day) with 8 deaths (1.6 per day) and 10 hospitalizations (2.0 per day). Though early in the month, here are February’s numbers for comparison – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.46 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.39 per day).
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 7.1 percent (lowest since Nov. 14).
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8137 cases, 158 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 291 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 35-44 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Friday with 4.

GEORGIA CASES
On Friday, Georgia confirmed 1313 new cases of COVID-19, the 6th day in-a-row below 2000. Other Friday numbers included 64 deaths, 115 hospitalizations and 15 ICU admits.
Two of four census number categories dropped slightly from Thursday. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1705 (down 56 from Thursday) which is 10.7 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since late November. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state also dropped to 12,417 (down 93) or at 81.5 percent capacity.
ICU bed occupancy rose on Friday to 2496 (up 13) or 81.3 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators are at 1157 (up 11) or 31.3 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.0 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 6.5 percent.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 826,117 cases, 15,526 deaths, 56,627 hospitalizations and 9236 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
