Friday: Georgia surpasses 15,000 COVID-related deaths

THE SKINNY – Georgia recorded 18 COVID-related deaths on Friday, enough to push the state’s cumulative total to over 15,000.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, Feb. 26. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Coweta County confirmed 46 new COVID-19 cases on Friday with 0 deaths and 2 hospitalizations. The 46 cases were the most in Coweta since posting 63 on Feb. 4. It also extended the county’s streak of double-digit cases to 105, dating f rom Nov. 14.
Today’s 2 hospitalizations made it 9 of the last 10 days in which Coweta had at least 1 person hospitalized.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 191 COVID cases (27.3 per day), 5 deaths and 12 hospitalizations.
For the month of February, Coweta has posted 774 cases (29.8 per day), a record-high 39 deaths and 35 hospitalizations. Coweta, by comparison, posted 1866 cases or 60.2 per day with 31 deaths and 32 hospitalizations in January.
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.7 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 9.5 percent.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7913 cases, 148 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 277 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 22nd in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 35-44 had the most new COVID cases on Friday with 12.

GEORGIA CASES
On Friday, Georgia confirmed 2208 new cases of COVID-19 with 18 deaths, 174 hospitalizations and 51 ICU admits. The 18 deaths push Georgia’s cumulative total to 15,007 since the pandemic began.
All four census number categories dropped slightly on Friday. ICU bed occupancy dropped to 2474 (down 15 from Thursday) or 80.5 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is at 12,443 (down 162) or at 81.5 percent capacity. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 2016 (down 91) which is 12.7 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since late November. And Adult Ventilators use dropped to 1176 (down 32) or 31.9 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 7.9 percent.
To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 814,820 cases, 15,007 deaths, 55,778 hospitalizations and 9087 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
