Monday: Coweta reports 42 new cases of COVID, 1 hospitalization

THE SKINNY – Coweta County has now posted 40-or-more cases of COVID-19 for the 19th time in the past 20 days after recording 42 on Monday.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Monday, Jan. 25.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 42 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday with 0 deaths and 1 hospitalization. Today’s cases extend the number of consecutive days to 73 with double-digit cases, dating from Nov. 14, and it’s also 28 straight days with more than 20.

In January, the county has posted 1544 cases for an average of 61.8 per day. There have been 24 deaths and 24 hospitalizations. The 1544 cases have surpassed the total for every month except December (1620). Coweta will likely surpass December’s total by Thursday.

The age group of 35-44 year-olds had the highest number of COVID cases on Monday with 10.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 6817 cases, 102 deaths (with an additional 7 probable deaths) and 238 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th among all Georgia counties for most cumulative cases and 30th in deaths.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 14.3 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

On Monday, Georgia confirmed 3530 new cases of COVID-19 including 53 deaths, 113 hospitalizations and 4 ICU admits. Today’s 3530 cases breaks a streak of 27 consecutive days of above 4000. It was the lowest amount of new cases since 3152 on Dec. 28.

Presently, 4879 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 29.6 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Monday is at 12,782 or at 83.5 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2703 or 89.7 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1595 or 43.1 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 722,062 cases, 11,854 deaths, 48,498 hospitalizations and 8203 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 15.2 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (170 on Jan. 19); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
