Weekend: Coweta reports 46 new COVID-19 cases

THE SKINNY – After posting 12 deaths due to COVID-19 in 4 days (Tuesday through Friday), Coweta County had back-to-back days over the weekend with 0 deaths.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for the weekend of Feb. 13-14. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

The weekend of Feb. 13-14 was relatively quiet here in Coweta County with 46 new COVID cases confirmed with 0 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. Coweta logged 28 cases on Saturday and another 18 on Sunday.

The 0 deaths comes on the heels of 4 consecutive days which totaled 12 deaths earlier in the week.

Case-wise, Coweta continues with its streak of double-digit cases and is now at 93 days, dating from Nov. 14.

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 443 cases (31.6 per day), 24 deaths and 13 hospitalizations. Coweta’s 24 deaths already is the 2nd-highest total for a month after just 14 days, trailing only 31 in January.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 8.8 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7582 cases, 133 deaths (with an additional 9 probable deaths) and 259 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 25th in deaths due to COVID.

Over the weekend, the age group of 35-45 year olds in Coweta had the most new COVID cases with 12, followed by the group 25-34 with 10.

GEORGIA CASES

Georgia confirmed 4502 new cases of COVID-19 over the past weekend with 108 deaths, 268 hospitalizations and 19 ICU admits.

The state posted 2793 cases, 105 deaths, 229 hospitalizations and 15 ICU admits on Saturday. On Sunday, Georgia recorded 1709 cases, 3 deaths, 39 hospitalizations and 4 ICU admits. The 1709 cases was the lowest number of single-day cases since Dec. 6.

Presently, 2931 people (down 95 from Saturday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 18.7 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Sunday is at 12,054 (down 448) or at 78.9 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2585 (down 49) or 83.7 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1329 (down 15) or 35.9 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 10.1 percent.

To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 790,779 cases, 13,964 deaths, 53,379 hospitalizations and 8760 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
