Tuesday Daily Status Report: Coweta cases climb to 383

The 7 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, May 26.

Coweta County had an increase of 7 new cases in today’s report from the GPH. The new cases bring the overall cumulative total in Coweta to 383. Both deaths (8) and hospitalizations (50) remain unchanged.

The 7 cases is a drastic contrast to the single-day high of 45 set yesterday. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, District 4 office in LaGrange, there were a couple of reasons for the incredible spike in cases on Memorial Day. First, a backlog of test results were received from a lab over the weekend (tests were done earlier in May). And second, several duplicate entries in the system are inflating the numbers.

Initially, the concern was directed at a pair of long-term care facilities – Newnan Health & Rehabilitation and Watercrest Assisted Living and Memory Care – as both had seen increases in positive cases recently. Today’s Long-Term Care Report, released by the Georgia Department of Community Health at 7 p.m., showed no changes from the May 22 report. Newnan Health & Rehab remained with 26 cases and 2 deaths; Watercrest with 7 cases.

Statewide today, Georgia recorded 583 new cases with 47 deaths, 133 hospitalized and 34 admitted to ICU.

In the last two days combined (Monday and Tuesday), Georgia has had 1081 cases, 68 deaths, 190 hospitalized and 44 to ICU.

Overall, Georgia now has a cumulative total of 43,983 cases, 1895 deaths, 7640 hospitalized and 1728 ICU admits. The total number of tests administered now stands at 514,945.
