Thursday: Coweta surpasses 4000 cumulative cases of COVID

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Thursday, Dec. 10.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County surpassed the 4,000-cumulative cases mark on Thursday with 53 confirmed and no deaths or hospitalizations reported. The county now stands at 4003 cases since the pandemic began.

It marked the 9th time Coweta County has had 50 cases-or-more in a single day, the last time was 51 on Nov. 27. And, it was the 27th consecutive day Coweta has bee in double-digit cases, the 2nd-longest streak since the start of the coronavirus.

For the month of December, the county has registered 350 cases for an average of 35.0 per day with 3 deaths and 9 hospitalizations. The 35.0 daily rate is ahead of the high mark for a month which was 30.7 in August when Coweta had 953 cases.

The age group of 45-54 year olds had 12 new cases confirmed on Thursday, the highest of any group. The age group of 15-24 was just behind with 10 new cases.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 4003 cases, 71 deaths and 186 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, is presently rising at 11.9 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12). Longest streak of double-digit cases in a single day (41 consecutive days from July 21-Aug. 30).

GEORGIA CASES

On Thursday, Georgia set a single-day high for cases with 6062, which was up 2318 from Wednesday’s totals. It broke the single-day high of 4947 on Dec. 4. Other Thursday numbers included 50 deaths, 277 hospitalizations and 34 ICU admits.

Presently, there are 2735 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 16.7 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,672 or at 83.7 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2518 or 86.1 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 861 or 30.5 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 462,175 cases, 9123 deaths, 37,017 hospitalizations and 6790 ICU admits.  The overall positive test rate is 9.4 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s rising and stands at 12.7 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (6062 on Dec. 10); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
