Trinity Christian begins State Playoffs tonight


EDITOR’S NOTE (11/20 at 8 a.m.) … TRINITY CHRISTIAN ADVANCES … The Trinity Christian Lions remained unbeaten with a 48-14 victory over Athens Christian Friday night in the 2nd round of the GHSA 1-A Private High School Football Playoffs. Trinity Christian, now 11-0, advances to the 3rd round next Friday and will host Darlington School, a 24-14 winner over Tattnall Square.  Darlington is 11-1 on the season.

Top-ranked Trinity Christian embarks on its quest for a high school football state championship tonight.

The Lions, now a perfect 10-0 and ranked No. 1 in the latest AJC Poll for Private 1-A, host Athens Christian (7-4) in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. It’s the 2nd round of the GHSA 1-A Private State Playoffs as Trinity Christian received a bye a week ago. The Lions need four wins to capture their first state title in GHSA play.

Trinity Christian enters tonight as the Region 4, No. 1 seed and is the lone remaining Coweta County school still playing. Last week, East Coweta and Newnan dropped GHSA 7-A 1st Round Playoff games. East Coweta (7-4) lost on the road to Grayson, 48-14. Newnan ended its season at 3-7 after a 56-7 loss at Brookwood. Central Christian School finished the year at (3-7) following a 42-14 loss at Harvester Christian last Friday in the GAPPS 1-A Semifinals. Heritage School (0-10) was winless during the 2021 season and forfeited to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy in the GHSA 1-A Private 1st Round last week. Northgate did not make the playoffs and ended its campaign at 2-8.

Trinity Christian, coached by Kenny Dallas, routed St. Anne-Pacelli, 63-7, in its last regular-season action on Nov. 5. The Lions have scored a whopping 514 points on the season, averaging 51.4 points per game. They are equally as impressive on defense, allowing a season total of 84 points or 8.4 per game.

Tonight’s opponent Athens Christian, the No. 3 seed in Region 8, advanced to play the Lions with a 42-39 first-round win over St. Francis last Saturday. The winner this evening advances to 3rd round action next Friday facing the winner of Tattnall Square-Darlington.
