Tuesday: Coweta adds 11 new COVID-19 cases

THE SKINNY – Coweta County reported 11 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, marking the 12th time this month below 20.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Tuesday, March 16. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 11 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 0 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. It’s only the 2nd time in March the county did not record a death and hospitalization on the same day, the last time on March 7.

Tuesday’s 11 cases was the 12th time this month below 20. In fact, the last time Coweta was below 20 cases for that many days in a month was November (19).

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 79 COVID cases (11.3 per day), 6 deaths and 6 hospitalizations.

For March, Coweta has posted 273 cases (17.1 per day) with 15 deaths (0.9 per day) and 21 hospitalizations (1.3 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.6 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped to 5.4 percent (lowest since Oct. 23).

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8298 cases, 165 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 302 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 20th in deaths due to COVID.

The age groups of 5-14 and 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Tuesday with 3 each.

GEORGIA CASES

On Tuesday, Georgia confirmed 1099 new COVID-19 cases, the 17th consecutive day below 2000.  The last time that occurred was Oct. 6-22. Also on Tuesday, the state had 10 deaths, 130 hospitalizations and 25 ICU admits.

Two of four census categories increased numbers-wise on Tuesday. ICU bed occupancy rose to 2372 (up 78 from Monday) or 79.4 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state increased to 11,745 (up 125) or at 77.2 percent capacity.

Adult Ventilators in use dropped to 1073 (down 10) or 29.0 percent capacity. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia continued to fall, now standing at 1314 (down 56) which is 8.6 percent of all statewide hospital patients.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.3 percent.

Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 837,443 cases, 15,928 deaths, 57,513 hospitalizations and 9385 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
