Weather: Sunny start, but rain brings year to a close Thursday

The last week of 2020 begins with sunshine and mild temperatures before rain closes the year out on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Folks in Coweta County can expect partly sunny to mostly sunny skies today and Tuesday with a high temperature near 60 degrees, lows around 40.

On Wednesday, clouds begin to roll in ahead of a storm system. The high on Wednesday will be around 55 and a 30 percent rain chance appears overnight.

New Year’s Eve will be typical 2020 as the county and state celebrate an end to this crazy year under a forecast with a 90 percent rain chance during the day and night. The high on Thursday will be 65 and overnight low 53.

And finally on New Year’s Day, rain moves out and sunny skies return with a high near 60.

Below is the day-by-day forecast (subject to change) from the NWS:

MONDAY – Partly sunny, with a high near 58. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

MONDAY NIGHT – Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. Calm wind.

TUESDAY – Mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.

TUESDAY NIGHT – Partly cloudy, with a low around 40. East wind 5 to 10 mph.

WEDNESDAY – Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. East wind 5 to 10 mph.

NEW YEAR’S EVE – Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 65. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

NEW YEAR’S DAY – A 30 percent chance of showers before 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 60.
