THE SKINNY – Coweta County recorded 28 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the 18th day in February with more than 20.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, Feb. 24. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 28 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 0 deaths and 1 hospitalization. The 28 cases extended Coweta’s streak of double-digits  to 103 days, dating from Nov. 14, and is the 18th time in February above 20.

In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 194 COVID cases (27.7 per day), 9 deaths and 12 hospitalizations.

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 710 cases (29.6 per day), 36 deaths and 30 hospitalizations. Coweta, by comparison, posted 1866 cases or 60.2 per day in January.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks has dropped slightly to 9.4 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7849 cases, 145 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 272 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 23rd in deaths due to COVID.

The age groups of 25-34 and 35-44 year olds had the most new COVID cases on Wednesday with 5.

GEORGIA CASES

On Wednesday, Georgia confirmed 2057 new cases of COVID-19 with 121 deaths, 227 hospitalizations and 32 ICU admits. It’s the 33rd time the state has posted 100-or-more COVID-related deaths in a single day.

Two patient census number categories rose again slightly on Wednesday. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is at 12,651 (up 411 from Tuesday) or at 82.8 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2506 (up 27) or 81.7 percent capacity.

Presently, 2165 people (down 97 from Tuesday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 13.6 percent of all statewide hospital patients. It’s the lowest number since Nov. 30. Also, 1208 Adult Ventilators were in use (down 36) which is 32.5 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 8.4 percent.

To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 810,473 cases, 14,882 deaths, 55,394 hospitalizations and 8999 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
