Weekend: Coweta adds 109 new cases of COVID

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for weekend of Dec. 12-13.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 109 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend with 1 hospitalization and 0 deaths reported. Coweta posted 49 cases and 1 hospitalization on Saturday and another 60 cases on Sunday to run its consecutive streak to 30 days with double-digit cases.

Sunday’s 60 cases mark the 11th time the county has had 50-or-more in a single day.

Coweta set a high-mark for cases in a week (Sunday-Saturday) and per day rate in a week for the period of Dec. 6 thru Dec. 12. The county had a high of 300 cases with a 42.9 per day rate, bettering the previous high of 265 cases and 37.8 rate for the week of Aug. 9-15.

For the month of December, the county has registered 512 cases for an average of 39.4 per day with 4 deaths and 11 hospitalizations. The 39.4 daily rate is ahead of the high mark for a month which was 30.7 in August when Coweta had 953 cases.

The age group of 55-64 year olds had 21 new cases confirmed over the weekend, the highest of any group. Next was 45-54 year olds at 18 new cases.

To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 4165 cases, 72 deaths and 188 hospitalizations.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 8.4 percent, and in the last two weeks, is presently at 11.7 percent.

GEORGIA CASES

Over the weekend, Georgia confirmed 9140 cases with 30 deaths, 316 hospitalizations and 22 ICU admits. The state had 4830 cases on Saturday (4th-highest single-day) and added another 4310 on Sunday. It’s now 4 consecutive days Georgia has reported 4000-or-more cases, the longest stretch of 4000-case days since the pandemic began.

Presently, there are 2866 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 18.1 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,298 or at 81.4 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2498 or 85.3 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 858 or 30.2 percent capacity.

Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 476,044 cases, 9205 deaths, 37,637 hospitalizations and 6854 ICU admits.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 9.5 percent, and in the last two weeks, it stands at 12.4 percent.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (6062 on Dec. 10); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
