Weekend: Coweta reports 80 COVID cases, 4 deaths, 2 hospitalizations

THE SKINNY – Saturday was one of the deadliest days due to COVID-19 as both Coweta County and Georgia confirmed single-day highs for deaths.

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for the weekend, Feb. 6-7.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 80 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, including 4 deaths and 2 hospitalizations. Coweta had 43 cases, 4 deaths and 2 hospitalizations on Saturday, followed by 37 cases and 0 deaths and hospitalizations on Sunday.

The 4 deaths on Saturday tied the single-day high for Coweta with 4 (only other time on Aug. 13).  The county has now recorded 12 deaths in the past 7 days.

Case-wise, the county now has been above 20 cases for 41 straight days and in double-digits for 86 consecutive days.

For the month of February, Coweta has posted 275 cases (39.3 per day), 12 deaths and 7 hospitalizations.

The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks, is at 10.5 percent.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7414 cases, 121 deaths (with an additional 8 probable deaths) and 253 hospitalizations since the pandemic began.

Over the weekend, the age group of 55-64 years old had the most new COVID cases with 15, followed by groups 35-44 and 45-54 with 14 each.

GEORGIA CASES

Over the weekend, Georgia confirmed 6374 new cases of COVID-19 including 180 deaths, 363 hospitalizations and 43 ICU admits. The state posted 3221 cases on Saturday with 178 deaths, 253 hospitalizations and 35 ICU admits. And on Sunday, Georgia had 3153 cases, 2 deaths, 110 hospitalizations and 8 ICU admits.

The 178 deaths on Saturday were the most in a single day due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began. The previous high was 170 on Jan. 19. Georgia has now recorded 25 days with 100-or-more deaths.

Presently, 3456 people in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 22.0 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Sunday is at 12,249 or at 80.4 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2588 or 83.9 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1467 or 39.9 percent capacity.

The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 12.0 percent.

To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 772,978 cases, 13,326 deaths, 51,842 hospitalizations and 8598 ICU admits since the pandemic began.

Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (178 on Feb. 6); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
