Weekend: Coweta reports 25 COVID cases, 3 hospitalizations

THE SKINNY – Coweta County added 3 COVID-related hospitalizations over the weekend, pushing the county’s cumulative total to 301 since the pandemic began approximately a year ago.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for the weekend of March 13 and 14. Below is a summary with data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Coweta County confirmed 25 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend with 0 deaths and 3 hospitalizations.
On Saturday, Coweta added 19 cases and 2 hospitalizations and followed with Sunday’s 6 cases and 1 hospitalization. Sunday’s cases were the fewest in a single day since 6 on Nov. 8 and the 10th time below 20 in the month of March.
The 3 weekend hospitalizations pushed Coweta’s total to 15 in the past 10 days, 20 in March and 301 since the pandemic began.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 104 COVID cases (14.9 per day), with 5 deaths and 9 hospitalizations.
For March, Coweta has posted 253 cases (18.1 per day) with 13 deaths (0.9 per day) and 20 hospitalizations (1.4 per day). For comparison, here are February’s numbers and per day averages – 886 cases (31.6 per day), 41 deaths (1.5 per day), and 39 hospitalizations (1.4 per day).
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.6 percent, and in the last two weeks is at 6.2 percent.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 8278 cases, 163 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 301 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 22nd in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 21st in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 55-64 year olds had the most new COVID cases on since Friday with 9.

GEORGIA CASES
Over the weekend, Georgia confirmed 1819 new COVID-19 cases with 1031 on Saturday and 788 on Sunday. It’s now 15 straight days below 2000 cases, the last time that occurred was from Oct. 8-22. The 788 cases were the fewest since 741 on March 8.
All four census categories dropped numbers-wise since Friday. COVID patients hospitalized in Georgia stands at 1392 (down 36 from Friday) which is 9.4 percent of all statewide hospital patients. ICU bed occupancy dropped to 2276 (down 133) or 75.8 percent capacity. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state decreased to 11,549 (down 719) or at 76.4 percent capacity. And Adult Ventilators in use dropped to 1073 (down 55) or 29.1 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 10.9 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 5.4 percent.
Georgia has confirmed cumulative totals of 835,484 cases, 15,871 deaths, 57,361 hospitalizations and 9357 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
