From Staff Reports

The final weekend before the start of the school year is here and brings with it several family-friendly and fun events here in Coweta County and surrounding areas beginning Friday.

On Friday, the 7th Annual Soles For Cole Golf Tournament fundraiser kicks off the weekend at the White Oak Golf Club in Newnan. And Friday night, our own Kris Youmans has you covered with the local music venues and acts.

Then on Saturday, Back-to-School Pep Rallies in Newnan and Peachtree City highlight the morning and evening. And in between is the 7th Annual Soles for Cole Family Fun Day in Senoia, starting at 3 p.m. with the Cole’s Dash, 1 Mile Race and 5K Race all on the docket in Senoia. There’s also a watermelon-eating contest at the Chattahoochee Bend State Park and the annual Black Ties and Boots fundraiser at WGTC’s Waco Campus with country star Craig Morgan. And if you like 1980s music, the Fred Amphitheater in Peachtree City has you covered with these bands performing at its The Lost 80s Concert (A Flock of Seagulls, The Motels, The Vapors, Naked Eyes, Bow Wow Wow, Real Life, Boys Don’t Cry, Farrington & Mann).

And Sunday, the final performances for three plays – “Matilda The Musical”, “The True Story of Pocahontas”, and “Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical” – at the Legacy Theatre and Serenbe Playhouse.

The National Weather Service is giving a 60 percent rain chance on Friday, 40 percent Saturday and 60 percent on Sunday. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s with lows near 70.
