With one week to go before Labor Day weekend, the local events calendar continues to list several family, fun-filled activities in Newnan, Sharpsburg, LaGrange, Brooks, Fayetteville and Peachtree City.
Beginning with Friday, high school football officially gets underway with three local teams in action. Plus a fundraiser, family-comedy “Murder at the Tractor Pull” will be at Sharpsburg Baptist Church and a Movie Under The Stars (Disney’s ‘Brave’) is at Pinewood Forest in Fayetteville.
On Saturday, plenty of farmers’ markets will be open – Newnan, LaGrange and Brooks – plus three events are slated at Chattahoochee Bend State Park. Serve Coweta kicks off the day at 8 a.m. with its annual event, a Wing King Cook Off will be at Peachtree City’s Drake Field and don’t miss the 8th Annual Blues Plate Special with Kris Youmans Band, Eric Culberson Band, Frankie’s Blues Mission and Leonard Washington at the Alamo, benefiting Meals on Wheels. And finally, East Coweta opens its 2019 prep football season at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the Corky Kell Classic.
And finally Sunday, two theatrical performances are slated – Serenbe Playhouse’s “Jungle Book” and Newnan Theatre Company’s “Arsenic and Old Lace” as well as a Teacher Appreciation event at Sharpsburg’s Crossroads Church.

Weather-wise, the extended heat wave looks like it will come to an temporary end as a cold front moves through Saturday night and with it, rain chances increase. Look for a high near 91 degrees on Friday (30 percent rain chance), 88 degrees on Saturday (60 percent rain chance) and 83 degrees with clouds (60 percent rain chance) on Sunday.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

Murder at the Tractor Pull
A family-friendly comedy for all ages at the Sharpsburg Baptist Church. In the little town of Turnip, GA, the Fords and the Deeres have been feuding for years! But at this Year’s annual tractor pull will that rivalry lead to murder? All proceeds will go towards the Sharpsburg Baptist Church Building Fund.
Tickets $10 each ($30/family), will be sold at the door.

2019 Local High School Football Season begins
Four of the six local high school football squads begin the 2019 season this weekend with three taking the field tonight.

Movie ‘Brave’ Under The Stars at Pinewood Forest
Join Relay For Life of Fayette County, GA for a free outdoor movie, Disney/Pixar’s “Brave” at Pinewood Forest! The movie will begin after dark (8 p.m.) but our other festivities start at 5 p.m., so come early to eat, hear live music, and play games! You’ll also want to have a blanket or lawn chair to reserve your spot early on. Food and drinks will be available for purchase with 100% of proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society.
