A very busy weekend is ahead for the folks in and around Coweta County.

The 2019 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair is the headlining event throughout the weekend, but a pair of festivals – Shakerag and Gingerlily also are on tap in Peachtree City and Sharpsburg, respectively, as well as Main Street Newnan’s Fall Art Walk.

On Friday, it’s the start of the two-day Preschool and Kindergarten Fall Consignment Sale at Newnan First UMC, the annual POW/MIA Recognition Day event at Newnan’s Veterans Park, an American Military History session at Newnan Carnegie Library, the Main Street Newnan Fall Art Walk, Jazz in the Park and five local schools are on the road as prep football continues.

On Saturday, 12 hours of action is scheduled for the Coweta County Fair, the Shakerag and Gingerlily Festivals begin at 9 a.m., there’s a ChildrenConnect’s Mad Hatter Tea and Fashion Show, plus plenty of live and local music at various venues, including Southern Ground Amphitheater hosting Water to Wine and Departure (Journey tribute band).

And on Sunday, the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation presents Jim Auchmutey and ‘Smokelore,’ and Kate’s Club Connects hosts an Orientation and Open House at Odyssey School.

Weather-wise, it’s almost perfect with sunny skies and highs in the 80s with lows near 60. No chance of rain is in the forecast.

Newnan Trolley Service
This free service is offered to take riders from downtown Newnan to Ashley Park. Runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pickup locations at City Hall, the Governor Ellis Arnall Parking Lot on Madison Street, and Ashley Park at Dillard’s (West Entrance) and Regal Cinemas. The first pickup is at 1 p.m. at City Hall with the last full route starting at 7 p.m.

American Military History: The Doolittle Raid on Japan
Hosted by the Newnan Carnegie Library. Dr. Walter Todd has a Ph.D. in History but focuses mainly on American Military History. Dr. Todd has been a professor at the University of West Georgia as well as retired from West Georgia Technical College . Dr. Todd enjoys sharing his love for America’s past, present, and future through his teachings. This month he will be covering the Doolittle Raid on Japan which occurred on August 18, 1942. Reservations are requested.

Main Street Newnan hosts Fall Art Walk
The Fall Art Walk Event is a free event and a celebration of local art. Come see art come to life on downtown’s sidewalks! During the Art Walk, businesses extend their hours to host storefront exhibits and demonstrations curated by a variety of Newnan’s finest artists. Some of our local businesses will serve complimentary tastings and hors d’oeuvres and have specials and promotions throughout the night. Visitors can expect to stroll through over 35 locations and see the work of at least 50 artists, and you will find a wide variety of art styles and mediums, including oil on canvas, chalk art, engraving, pottery, photography, jewelry making, fiber arts, performing arts and acrylics. The downtown streets and sidewalks are sure to be filled with unexpected talent and delightful entertainment! There is no fee for admission to this event. And this event is an approved open container event.

2019 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair underway
The first weekend of the Kiwanis Coweta County Fair begins tonight with not only the carnival rides and food booths open, but also the exhibit hall and exhibits begin. Ride armbands are available for purchase at the fair which give customers unlimited rides on the day of issue. For Sunday through Thursday, Ride Armbands are $25. For Fridays and Saturdays, Ride Armbands are $30. Individual tickets for rides are also available during normal fair hours. Cost of rides vary. On the Friday schedule …Live music from the 4T’s, Rust and Flame Blacksmith, Shark Encounter, Sam’s Path Exotic Petting Zoo, Southeastern Reptile Rescue and Captain Jim.

Strange LaGrange: Ghosts, Legends, & Spirited History – A Walking Tour
Join Troup County Historical Society Docent and Southern Spirit Guide, Lewis Powell, for a ghostly tour of downtown LaGrange to hear about the spirited history of Troup County and those who call it home. Tours will depart from the Legacy Museum on Main, rain or shine, and move through the downtown area. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and an umbrella if the weather calls for rain!

Jazz in the Park
Will take place at the Greenville Street Park. The event is free and hosted by the Newnan Cultural Arts Commission and follows the Fall Art Walk in downtown Newnan. The headline performer is the Steven Charles Atlanta Jazz Band.

Keesha Vessell Vasculitis Walk … Celebrating A Life
This two-mile walk through downtown Newnan isto raise awareness and funds for the Vasculitis Foundation, a non-profit organization with the goal of promoting research, increasing information and helping patients who suffer with any form of Vasculitis. Free t-shirts while they last. Light morning snacks. Keesha, a Newnan native, died in January 2006 of Granulomatosis with Polyangitis, a form of Vasculitis.
