Weather Weekend in Coweta: Rain chances increase as cold front approaches

The extended heat wave which has covered up Coweta County and most of Georgia for the past two weeks appears to be at its end.
According to the National Weather Service, a cold front push through the area on Saturday as clouds and rain chances increase. High temperatures will finally drop below 90 degrees as Saturday’s high will be 88 and Sunday’s high will be 83. Rain chances both days are at 60 percent.
Friday’s high is expected to be near 91 degrees but the Heat Index value will approach 97 degrees.
Below is the day-by-day forecast from the NWS (as of 6 a.m. Friday):
FRIDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 97. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.
FRIDAY NIGHT – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Calm wind.
SATURDAY – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
SATURDAY NIGHT – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
SUNDAY – Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a high near 83. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
SUNDAY NIGHT – Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
