Friday: Coweta sets monthly record for COVID-related deaths

THE SKINNY – Coweta County established a new record on Friday for COVID-related deaths in a month. Coweta now has 34 deaths in February, surpassing the previous high of 31 in January.
The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, Feb. 19. Below is data from the Georgia DPH on Coweta County, neighboring counties and the state of Georgia.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Friday, Coweta County confirmed 32 new cases of COVID-19 with 3 deaths and 2 hospitalizations. The 3 deaths set a new record for COVID-related deaths in February, now at 34. Coweta has now recorded 22 deaths in the past 11 days.
Case-wise, Coweta’s 32 on Friday extended its streak of double-digit cases to 98 days, dating from Nov. 14.
In the past 7 days, Coweta has logged 186 COVID cases (26.6 per day), 10 deaths and 6 hospitalizations.
For the month of February, Coweta has posted 583 cases (30.7 per day), 34 deaths and 19 hospitalizations.
The positive test rate of all persons tested in Coweta is 10.8 percent, and in the last two weeks has risen slightly to 9.9 percent.
Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 7722 cases, 143 deaths (with an additional 12 probable deaths) and 265 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases and 23rd in deaths due to COVID.
The age group of 45-54 year olds had the most new COVID cases with 7 on Friday.

GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 2174 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday with 172 deaths, 261 hospitalizations and 29 ICU admits. The 172 deaths is the 4th-highest single day total and the 32nd time the state has posted 100-or-more in a day. The 2174 cases pushed Georgia over the 800,000-cumulative mark since the pandemic started.
Presently, 2503 people (down 90 from Thursday) in Georgia are hospitalized with COVID, which is 15.5 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state on Friday is at 12,588 (up 8) or at 82.2 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is at 2594 (down 10) or 84.1 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use is at 1289 (down 2) or 34.8 percent capacity.
The overall positive test rate of all persons tested in Georgia is 11.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, it is at 9.3 percent.
To date, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 800,959 cases, 14,530 deaths, 54,434 hospitalizations and 8898 ICU admits since the pandemic began.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (10,379 on Jan. 8); deaths (184 on Feb. 12); hospitalizations (611 on Jan. 6); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
