Weather Week in Coweta: Showers, thunderstorms expected through Wednesday

The first official week of summer will start with showers and thunderstorms through Wednesday, says the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Look for a 60 percent rain chance today (Monday), then 80 percent on Tuesday and Wednesday as an increased coverage of showers and thunderstorms are expected. A few thunderstorms may become strong to severe with the main hazards of gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain. This isn’t necessarily a rain event system, just the conditions are in place for pop-up showers and thunderstorms anytime during the day, mainly in the afternoon.

High temperatures will be near 89 today, then drop to 82 on Tuesday and 79 on Wednesday as the clouds and rain linger around. Highs will return to the upper 80s on Friday. Lows will be in the upper 60s.

Below is the day-by-day weather forecast (subject to change) for Coweta County from the NWS:

MONDAY – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5pm. Patchy dense fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

MONDAY NIGHT – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8pm. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

TUESDAY – Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Patchy fog before 10am. High near 82. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

TUESDAY NIGHT – Showers and thunderstorms before 9pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 9pm. Low around 68. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

WEDNESDAY – Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 79. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

THURSDAY – A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81.

FRIDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 87.
