Wednesday: Coweta reports 46 new cases of COVID-19

The Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Wednesday, Dec. 9.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
On Wednesday, Coweta County confirmed 46 new cases of COVID-19 with no deaths or hospitalizations reported. It is the 26th consecutive day for Coweta in double-digit cases and is the second-longest streak during the pandemic.
For the month of December, the county has registered 297 cases for an average of 33.0 per day with 3 deaths and 9 hospitalizations. The 33.0 daily rate is ahead of the high mark for a month which was 30.7 in August when Coweta had 953 cases.
The age group of 15-24 year olds had 12 new cases confirmed on Wednesday, the highest of any group. The age group of 35-44 was just behind with 10 new cases.
To date, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 3950 cases, 71 deaths and 186 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.2 percent, and in the last two weeks, is presently rising at 11.8 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (67 on Nov. 17); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12). Longest streak of double-digit cases in a single day (41 consecutive days from July 21-Aug. 30).
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 3744 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, up 58 from Tuesday’s totals. Also today, 46 deaths (up 26), 279 hospitalizations (up 88) and 37 ICU admits (up 9) were recorded.
Presently, there are 2672 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, which is 16.4 percent of all statewide hospital patients. The number of In-Patient Hospital Beds in use across the state is 12,664 or at 83.1 percent capacity. ICU bed occupancy is 2538 or 86.3 percent capacity. Adult Ventilators in use in GA is presently at 867 or 30.6 percent capacity.
Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 456,113 cases, 9073 deaths, 36,740 hospitalizations and 6756 ICU admits. The age group in Georgia with the most cases by far is 18-29 year olds with 110,800. The age group in Georgia with the most deaths is the over 80 year olds with 3377. And the age group with most hospitalizations in GA is 60-69 year olds with 7476.
The overall positive test rate is 9.3 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s rising and stands at 12.5 percent.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,947 on Dec. 4); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
