From Staff Reports

The heat certainly is on here in Coweta and surrounding counties with a full weekend events calendar and a typical mid-July weather forecast.

Events range from exercise to ice cream to shopping to rodeo beginning today (Friday). Exercise is Medicine kicks off the day at the Newnan Carnegie Library, followed by Ice Cream Cone Fridays at Monarch House Assisted Living, two new shopping events – Alive! After Five in downtown Senoia and Summer Cool Down in downtown Newnan – and the two-night Carrollton Stampede Rodeo.

On Saturday, a pair of Farmer’s Markets gets things started both in Newnan and LaGrange, the Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic and Kickin’ for Irvin both get going at 9 a.m., two events are set for the Chattahoochee Bend State Park (Scavenger Hunt and Make a Hiking Stick), Night Market Peachtree City begins at 6 p.m. and the local music scene is highlighted by a twinbill at The Fred Amphitheater with Spin Doctors and 10,000 Maniacs.

And on Sunday, the Artists and Makers Pop-Up Market returns to RPM Full Service, National Ice Cream Day is celebrated with live music and ice cream again at Monarch House, plus four excellent performances – “Matilda The Musical,” “The True Story of Pocahontas,” “Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical,” and “Mama Don’t Fly” – are set at local theatrical venues.

For more events, check our Facebook page by clicking: https://www.facebook.com/pg/wintersmedia/events/.

Weather-wise, the summer afternoon showers and thunderstorms are always a possibility and this weekend, look out for high heat index values. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says a 60 percent chance of those summer storms are in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, down to 30 percent Sunday. Heat Index values (what the air actually feels like combining temperature and humidity) are 97 degrees Friday and 98 Saturday.

Below is the day-to-day listing of events in the area. To have your event published, please email [email protected].
