Weekend Weather: Heat continues, rain moves in Sunday

The string of consecutive days with a Heat Index of over 100 degrees will continue thru Saturday, says the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

The reporting station at Newnan-Coweta Airport recorded Heat Index values of 100 on Tuesday, 102 on Wednesday and 103 on Thursday. The extended forecast calls for the Heat Index to be 103 today and Saturday.

A front will make its way into Georgia on Sunday, bringing with it a 50 percent chance of rain as temperatures will slowly begin to drop. Rain continues in the forecast on Monday at 80 percent, but with much cooler high temperatures near 85.

Expect today’s high temperature to be near 97 degrees, 95 on Saturday and 94 on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the mid-70s.

FRIDAY – Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 103. Light northwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

FRIDAY NIGHT – Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

SATURDAY – A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 103. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

SATURDAY NIGHT – A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 76. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

SUNDAY – A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

SUNDAY NIGHT – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

MONDAY – Showers and thunderstorms. High near 85. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
