THE SKINNY – Coweta County has averaged over 20 new COVID-19 cases per day so far in December, the highest daily average since early October.

Below is a summary of COVID-19 data thru Friday, Dec. 3 from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

COWETA COUNTY CASES

Coweta County confirmed 95 new COVID-19 cases last week (Nov. 27-Dec. 3), but the first three days of December has seen 61 cases for an average of 20.3 per day. Included in the December totals are 17 cases on Dec. 1, another 31 on Dec. 2 and 13 more on Dec. 3. The last time the county had an daily average of over 20 cases was the week of Oct. 2-8, 2021 with a 21.4 per day rate.

Coweta has had 1 death and 7 hospitalizations during the early days of December.

Per the Georgia Department of Public Health, Coweta County has a vaccination rate of 49 percent for people with one dose and 45 percent for fully vaccinated as of Dec. 3. Full vaccination rates for neighboring counties includes Fayette at 61 percent, Fulton at 56 percent, Spalding (41%), Meriwether (41%), Carroll (37%), Troup (36%) and Heard (29%).

The positive test rate this week of all persons tested in Coweta was 10.6 percent, and in the last two weeks stands at 5.0 percent. Last week, those test rates were at 10.7 and 4.3, respectively.

Overall, Coweta has confirmed cumulative totals of 13,100 cases, 348 deaths (with an additional 41 probable deaths) and 881 hospitalizations thru Dec. 3 from when the pandemic began. Coweta ranks 24th in Georgia (out of 159 counties) in cumulative cases, 14th in deaths due to COVID and 24th in COVID-related hospitalizations.
