Friday: Coweta adds 26 new cases of COVID-19, 2 deaths

The 3 p.m. Daily Status Report of the COVID-19 pandemic has been issued by the Georgia Department of Public Health for Friday, Oct. 16.
COWETA COUNTY CASES
Coweta County confirmed 26 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday including 2 deaths and 0 hospitalizations. The deaths were of an 87-year-old white male and a 62-year-old white male, both with underlying conditions. There are now 13 deaths in Coweta during the month of October, second-highest monthly total behind 21 in September.

Coupled with Thursday’s 24 cases, the 50 cases in the past 2 days are the highest back-to-back day totals since Aug. 28-29.
To date, Coweta has registered cumulative totals of 2833 cases, 60 deaths and 142 hospitalizations. The overall positive test rate is 8.1 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 5.9 percent.

Single-day highs now for Coweta since the pandemic began in March follow: cases (66 on Aug. 26); deaths (4 on Aug. 13); and hospitalizations (6 on May 12).
GEORGIA CASES
Georgia confirmed 1609 cases on Friday (down 31 from Thursday’s total), 64 deaths (most since 96 on Sept. 23), 136 hospitalizations and 34 ICU admits. It’s the first time since Sept. 18-19 that Georgia had back-to-back days of 1,600 cases-or-more. It’s also the 27th consecutive day Georgia has been below 2,000 cases in a single day, the 62nd straight day below 3,000.
Presently, there are 1,318 people in Georgia hospitalized with COVID, down 3 from Thursday.
Overall, Georgia has recorded cumulative totals of 337,850 cases, 7556 deaths, 30,217 hospitalizations and 5614 ICU admits. The overall positive test rate is 9.7 percent, and in the last two weeks, it’s 5.6 percent.
Georgia’s single-day highs follow: cases (4,813 on July 24); deaths (122 on Aug. 11); hospitalizations (506 on April 7); ICU admits (97 on Aug. 12).
