Weather Week in Coweta: Cooler with rain chances daily

Folks can expect a wet, yet cooler work week in Coweta County, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Scattered to occasional thunderstorms are expected across north and central Georgia during much of the week as a low pressure system has stalled along the coastal area of  the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the storms will be during the afternoon and evening hours with possible strong gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain.

As of 6 a.m. today, rain chances are listed at 70 percent on Monday, 90 percent Tuesday, 70 percent Wednesday, 60 percent Thursday and 50 percent on Friday. Mostly cloudy skies each day will keep high temperatures in the lower 80s. Lows will be near 70.

Below is the day-by-day forecast (subject to change) from the National Weather Service:

MONDAY – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

MONDAY NIGHT – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

TUESDAY – Occasional showers and thunderstorms. High near 81. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

TUESDAY NIGHT – A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Calm wind.

WEDNESDAY – Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

THURSDAY – Showers and thunderstorms likely. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

FRIDAY – A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.
